Abstract

ABSTRACT Festian S, Iman. 2022. An Analysis of Idiomatic Expression in Suicide Squad Movie Script. A Thesis. English Education Program Teacher Training Education Faculty Batanghari University Jambi. The First Advisor Dr. Yanti Ismiyati, S. Pd., M. Pd, The Second Advisor Siti Aisyah, S. Pd., M. Pd. The objectives of this research are to analysis the types of idiomatic expression used in Suicide Squad movie script and to interpret the meaning of idiomatic expression that found in Suicide Squad movie script. This research was designed using qualitative methods using narrative inquiry approach. The researcher used O’Dell and McCarthy’s theory to answer the formulated research questions. The subject of this research is a movie script enititled Suicide Squad directed by David Ayer and premiered in New York City. The data were some words and sentences including the idiomatic expressions that used in Suicide Squad movie. The data analysis was conducted by categorizing and identifying the data to find the inferences. The findings of the research are as follows: in Suicide Squad movie script, seven of seven types of idiomatic expression by O’Dell and McCarthy are found. Those seven types of idiomatic expressions are simile idiom eight cases, binomials one case, trinomials one case, proverb one case, euphemisms one case, cliché sixteen cases, and fixed statement one case.
