Abstract

ABSTRACT Effective personal financial management is essential for individuals of all backgrounds, especially students. This can be seen as a type of cognitive ability to control and maximize personal financial resources effectively. Increasing public trust in the financial services industry is the main objective of financial literacy. Several studies on student literacy have been extensively researched in various tertiary institutions, but for non-Bidikmisi students, this will assist the authors in finding the factors that influence the financial literacy of Jambi High School of Economics students that researchers want to verify. Based on the phenomenon of previous research and also the differences in the factors that influence it, the author is tempted to carry out research with the title as a background of the problems mentioned above entitled "The Influence of GPA, Parental Education, Residence, and Time Span of Education on Literacy Finance (Studies on KIP-K Students at the High School of Economics (STIE) Jambi)". Based on the theory of the relationship between GPA and the level of financial literacy, GPA is a student's academic achievement from the results of the overall assessment during lectures (Irman & Fadrul, 2018). Wijayanti et al. (2016) stated that students' high financial literacy was due to obtaining a high GPA and vice versa. Theoretically the relationship between parental education and the level of financial literacy Gyensare (2012) found that there was a positive relationship between the education of the respondent's mother and the respondent's financial literacy. Then the relationship between domicile and level Financial literacy is according to Nababan & Sadalia (2013) has a positive relationship and theoretically the relationship between the range of education and the level of financial literacy also has a positive effect. This research uses primary data. Interview and Documentation Methods. Consists of the Independent Variable GPA, Parental Education, Domicile, Time Span of Education and the dependent variable Level of Financial Literacy. In the process of data processing, a questionnaire instrument was tested, classical assumptions, and multiple linear regression results were obtained with the help of SPSS 25 Version Software. The results showed that the variables GPA, parents' education, domicile, length of education had an effect of 89.9 percent on the level of financial literacy. Based on the results of the t test that the IPK variable partially has a positive and significant influence on the level of financial literacy. Parental Education Variable partially has a positive and significant influence on the Level of Financial Literacy. Residence variable partially has a positive and not significant effect on the level of financial literacy. And the variable Time Span of Education partially has a negative and significant effect on the Level of Financial Literacy. Simultaneously the independent variables affect the dependent variable. This study still has research limitations so that, based on the conclusions from the results of the discussion, further researchers need education on the level of financial literacy. Future researchers should add new variables such as the use of social media on the level of financial literacy in order to obtain more valid results, and the need for literacy in financial matters so as not to trapped by debt problems by taking advantage of free learning outside of academic learning such as training or workshops, free seminars related to financial literacy, in order to be able to manage and manage finances wisely.
