Abstract

Textbook is one of common mediums in teaching-learning process especially at the formal education asa school. The usage of English textbook is important because the textbook can provide any other materials in just one bundle of book. In other words, an easy access to the materials from the textbook can help either teacher or student to run the teaching-learning process. So, the role of textbook can be a critical part to a successful of English teaching-learning process. By considering the statement above, an analysis of the content of the textbook is more critical and needed. The aim of this research is discover how the materials or the contents in the textbook “English on Target” are fulfill the criteria of a good textbook that suggested by BSNP (Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan) based on kurikulum 2013. The researcher use qualitative method with content analysis to analyze the textbook. The findings of this research indicate that the textbook “English on Target” was categorized as a fair book because the content of evaluation criteria suggested by BSNP. The significan weakness of this book is the lack of diversity insight’s aspect. To fulfill the weakness the teachers are recommended to arrange their own hand out to provide the unavailable aspect of this book. Overall this book is still suitable to use in English teaching-learning process. Key Words: textbook, content analysis, curriculum
