Abstract

Keywords: Crossword Puzzle Game, Vocabulary Mastery. This research aims to find out whether there is any effect of crossword puzzle game towards students’ vocabulary mastery at the eleventh grade of Senior High School N 3 Jambi City. This type of research is a quasi-experimental with a total population of 355 people. Through simple random sampling technique, 31 students of Class XI IPS 1 were selected as the control class and 36 students of Class XI MIPA 1 were selected as the experimental class. The technique of collecting data is by distributing questions to research respondents. In this research, the data analysis technique was using the t test on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows version 25 program. The results of this research indicate that (1) students’ vocabulalry mastery in English subject taught using crossword puzzle game obtained an arithmetic mean of 89.61; (2) students’ vocabulary in English subject taught using crossword puzzle game obtained an arithmetic mean of 80.19; and (3) students’ vocabulary mastery in English subject taught using crossword puzzle game are higher than students’ vocabulary mastery in English subject taught using direct method with a value of Sig. 0.049 > 0.05. Furthermore, there is an effect on the use of crossword puzzle game towards students’ vocabulary mastery as evidenced by the increase in students’ learning outcomes.
