Abstract

Astuti, Sri. 2019: “The correlation Between Students’ Motivation and Achievement in Learning English at 7th grade Students of SMP N 5 Kota Jambi 2018/2019". A Thesis, English Study Program, the Batanghari University Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. The First Advisor:Nurul Fitri, S.S, M.Hum. The Second Advisor: Kartika Dewi, M.Pd. Key words: Students’ Motivation, Achievement, English Learning The purpose of this study was to determine there is a positive and significant correlation between motivation and learning achievement in Learning English at seventh grade students of SMPN 5 Kota Jambi academic year 2018/2019. The design of this study is quantitative descriptive. The population of students was eighth grade students of SMP 5 Kota Jambi (N = 118). The study sample (n = 30) was chosen as the respondent by random sampling. In collecting data, researcher used documentation for students' English learning achievements and questionnaires to determine student learning motivation. Based on the data analysis, the average students who have high learning motivation also have high achievements in their class. The data analysed using product moment correlation formula and t test. Based on the calculation, the r count is 0.59, this is a positive and high correlation. Researcher suggess students and English teachers to find out factors that are influenced by student achievement to improve students' English achievement.
