Abstract

Yuliana ,2019. The Influence of Youtube Usage on Students Interest in Speaking English At Eighth Grade of SMPN 5 Jambi in Academic Year 2019. First Advisor Yanti Ismiyati, M.Pd And The Second Advisor Efa Silfia, M.Pd. Keyword: Students Interest, Speaking, Youtube This research is aimed to find out whether Youtube Usage on Students Interest in Speaking English At Eighth Grade of SMPN 5 Jambi In Academic Year 2019. This research is was quantitative method. The sample is was 60 students from 340 populations use the cluster random sampling. Instrument of the research the researcher used test, the dialogue obtain from youtube based on the material about simple continous tence. To collect the data the research use pre-test, treatment, and post-test. After collecting data, the researcher analyzes to find the result of the experiment. The result of data analysis explain that The pre-test result of the experimental class revealed that the mean score was 70,9. Meanwhile, the post-test result showed that the mean score was 83,8. It improved by 12,9 points. It can be concluded that the students’ English speaking of the experimental class was significantly improved. The pre-test result of the control class illustrated that the mean was70,3. Meanwhile, the mean score for the post-test was76,23. It improved by 5,93 points. It can be concluded that the students’ English speaking of the control class was slightly improved. The post-test result showed that the mean score of the experimental class was higher than the control class. The mean score of experimental group in the post-test was 83,8 while the control group was 76,23. Based on the finding, the researcher concludes that in English speaking students who were taught by using youtube higher scores than those who were not.
