Keyword: Descriptive text, Schematic structure, Linguistic feature, Transitivity system The focus of this study is to analyze the students’ descriptive texts based on its criteria and identifying process types of transitivity system frequently found in students’ descriptive text. This research employed descriptive qualitative design with a case study approach. The data were 20 pieces of descriptive texts written by second semester students at English Education Program of Batanghari University. In this research, the students were assigned to write one text were used as the main data. The data analysis was carried out by identifying the students’ descriptive texts in terms of linguistic features (using Transitivity system), schematic structure of descriptive text criteria and also the process types of transitivity system frequently found in students’ descriptive text. The findings show that thirteen students were aware about how descriptive text should be written based on its criteria, appropriate schematic structure. Thirteen students’ texts apply the schematic structure of descriptive because the texts were arranged correctly in different paragraphs. On the other hand, seven students didn’t fulfill the criteria of schematic structure of descriptive text. In terms of linguistic features, the finding showed twenty texts successfully met their criteria as descriptive text in terms of linguistic feature. Those texts had relational process as their predominant process. It can show the total relational process made by the students are 269 and the relational process percentage is about 59%. Material process percentage is about 20%. Mental process percentage is about 12%. Behavioral process percentage is about 7%. Those linguistic features were in line with the linguistic features of the descriptive text as the use of these linguistics features accounts to the definitive presumption that text has achieved the criteria of descriptive text).
