Abstract

English Education Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Batanghari University. The First Advisor; Dr. Suyadi S.Pd, MA. The Second Advisor; Yanti Ismiyati, M.Pd. Key Words: Grammatical Errors, Writing, Descriptive Text. This research was done to analyze the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by tenth grade student in SMA N 11 Kota Jambi Academic Years 2017/2018. The method of this research is qualitative method. The sample of this research is tenth grade students in SMA N 11 Kota Jambi and choosing them by using random sampling technique. The instrument of the research is writing test. Based on the result, tenth grade students often make grammatical errors in their writing, the errors are analyzed based on four types, and there are Omission, Addition, Misformation and Misordering. After analyzed the data that got from 33 students. The researcher found out 97 total errors which decide to highest frequency and lowest frequency. The result showed that the highest frequency grammatical error made by students is Omisson which is 49,48% and the lowest frequency grammatical error made by students is Addition which is 4,12%. The highest errors are caused by Interlingual Transfer or negative influence mother tongue. It happen because English grammar difference from Indonesia grammar. The lowest errors are caused by Intralingual transfer. It happen incorrect generalization of rules within the target language. Based on the finding above, the researcher can conclude that tenth grade students need to more study about English grammar in order to avoid error in writing English Text.
