Abstract

The Talang Gulo landfill with the Inactive Controlled Landfill method is now abandoned and no longer in operation. However, the leachate in the TPA is still flowing and there is no treatment as a result, it can pollute the surrounding environment with high concentrations of BOD and COD pollutants. One of the media and methods for reducing BOD and COD pollutants in leachate is using the Constructed Wetland method, a batch system with water spinach (ipomoea aquatica forks) as the medium. Water spinach can absorb organic matter through the root tips until it enters the stem through the transport vessels and then spreads to all parts of the plant. In this process, organic substances will undergo biological reactions and accumulate in the stems of plants, and be passed on to the leaves. The results showed that the constructed wetland method using a batch system with water spinach plant media was capable and effective in reducing BOD and COD levels by 86% and 87% on the seventh day and 98% on the 14th day.
