Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to examine the effect of citric acid in feed on the leaching of heavy metal mercury (Hg) from the body of the Siamese catfish (P. hypophthalmus.F.). This research was conducted indoors (semi indoor). The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 (four) treatments and 2 (two) replications. Treatment A (0.0 gram/kg), B (1.0 gram/kg), C (2.0 gram/kg) and D (3.0 gram/kg). The test fish were catfish with a weight of ±300 grams as many as 32 tails. The catfish was obtained from the Batanghari river which was taken from the cultivators of the village of Sebubuk, Muaro Jambi. The fish are kept in four concrete tanks separated by two up to 8 (eight) units with a size of 73 x 80 x3 5 cm with a volume of 200 liters of water. Feeding in each treatment was given three times a day given satiety. Observations on the growth of fish weight and length were carried out once every 10 days, Observations of water quality were carried out at the beginning, middle and end of the study, and observations of fish survival were carried out every day. Observation or sampling of meat containing Hg was carried out twice at the beginning and at the end of the study taken at random. The results showed that the levels of Hg in the waters of the Batanghari River in Sebubuk Muaro Jambi Village ranged from 0.00018 µg/gram and in fish meat 0.000021 - 0.000038 µg/gram. This level is still classified as an indication of an uncontaminated metal level. Giving citric acid feed treatment with different doses had a significant effect on leaching/decreasing Hg levels accumulated in the body of Siamese catfish.
