Abstract

ABSTRACT Kartini, Dewi. 2020. ”An Analysis of Error in Using Idiomatic Expression Through Reading Text on Twelfth Grade Students at SMK N 2 in Academic Year 2020/2021”. A Thesis, English English Education Study Program. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. University of Batanghari: Jambi. Advisor : Yanti Ismiyati, M. Pd. and Co-Advisor : Khidayatul Munawwaroh, M. Pd Keyword : Idiomatic Expression, Reading text In this research, the researcher used the qualitative Research with the descriptive method. This experiment conducted in students of XII Multimedia 3 at SMK N 2 Kota Jambi who attended 23 students from 35 total of students. But, the students who followed the assessment test just 19 students.In Technique of Data Collection, the researcher use 2 steps especially in a test. The first type is the students will “find idioms” of the idiom find in reading text. And the second type is “Match the idiom”.The researcher analyzed an error with source of Error are two types namely Intralingual and Interlingual transfer. And the researcher analyzed the types of Idiomatic Expressions based on the theory by Peter watcyn Jones that are Idioms using verb, Idiom using noun, Idiom using adjective, Idiom using preposition, Special category Idioms, Special Topics Idioms. The researcher defined that the percentage of Error by the students of Twelfth grades Multimedia 3 at SMK N 2 Kota Jambi. The percentage explained that Amount of error answer is 31,5%, Amount of Emphty Error is 3,50%, and for Amount of Correct answer is 68,42%. It showed that the students have a middle knowledge in English Idiomatic Expressions. The researcher satisfied for the students that most of students have a good level to a young learners to mastery an Idiomatic Expressions. It is suggested for the Teacher can be add the material of English lessons about Idiomatic Expressions
