Abstract

ABSTRACT The environmental problem caused by oil drilling is contamination of the soil by oil spills. Soil washing is an effective method for reducing TPH levels in oil- polluted soils. This research focuses on restoring oil-contaminated soil by soil washing. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of soil washing using the leaching column method and to analyze the effect of variations in the concentration of tween 80 surfactant and variations in leaching repetitions in reducing the concentration of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) in oil- contaminated soils. The method used was soil washing with variations in the concentration of tween 80 surfactant used, 0.5% and 1%, with repeated leaching of 0, 1 time, 2 times. The soil to be analyzed is of the loamy sand type with an initial TPH content of 3092.75 mg/kg. The results showed that the concentration of TPH after soil washing decreased. With a removal efficiency of 87.69%, 72.45% at 0.5% and 1% surfactant concentrations. For variations of leaching repetitions, the removal efficiency is 87.69%, 90.40%, and 84.90% for variations of 0, 1 and 2 repetitions. The highest TPH contaminant removal occurred in one repetition of leaching with a surfactant concentration of 0.5%, namely 90.40%. Based on the results of Kd measurements after the Soil Washing process, it is known that the Kd values in loamy sand type soils range from 2.43 to 9.42.
