Abstract
ABSTRACT Faradila, Trifanny, (2022). “An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Writing Essay at Third Semester of FKIP BATANGHARI UNIVERSITY”. Thesis: English Education Study Program, Teachers Training and Education Faculty. Batanghari University. The first advisor: Kartika Dewi, M.Pd The second advisor: Efa Silfia, M.Pd One of the writing activities carried out by students at the lecture level, especially in the third semester of the English education study program, is writing essays. Essay writing activities carried out by students are not always smooth in their implementation, but experience many obstacles. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate and improve in learning English so that students can be more interested, enthusiastic and interact in essay writing activities. The purpose of this research are to analyze students’ difficult ies in writ ing essay at third semester FKIP Batanghari University and to find out the factors are caused students’ difficult ies in writ ing essay. This research is a survey method, used quantitative approach. The sample in this study was 15 students. The instrument used is an essay writing test about Covid 19. The results of the analysis of students' difficulties in writing essays in 3 semester at FKIP Batanghari University, shown in the organization is finding opening sentences that are appropriate to the topic, in grammar, the difficulty of students is to arrange words correctly and determine the right pronouns. in vocabulary, the difficulty of students is to compose varied or varied vocabulary, in mechanics, the difficulty of students is that they do not yet have an understanding of placing punctuation marks correctly, in the content, the students' difficulty is linking the first paragraph with the next paragraph. Factors that cause students' difficulties in writing essays, are lack of confidence, less interest in writing activities, unfocused or lazy, and lack of motivation to learn.
