Keywords: Anxiety, Speaking, English learning Strategies The objective of this qualitative study is to find out the factors that influence students’ anxiety in speaking English and also the strategies to overcome their anxiety in speaking English. This study involved 35 students of IX A class at SMPN 6 Kota Jambi academic year 2018/2019 as the subjects of the study. Two kinds of questionnaire used as the technique of data collection. The first questionnaire is to find out the factors that influence students’ anxiety in speaking English and it adapted from Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety (by Horwitz, Horwitz and cope 1986). The result is 15 students (43%) influenced by Communication Apprehension, 11 (31%) students are influeced by Test Anxiety, 9 students (26%) are Fear of Negative Evaluation. Communication Apprehension is the most influencing factors of students’ anxiety in speaking English. The second questionnaire is to find out the strategies to overcome students’ anxiety and it adapted from Five Strategies Coping with Language Anxiety (by Kondo and Ying-Ling 2004). The result is 10 students (29%) use Positive Thinking, 8 students (23%) use Relaxation, 7 students (20%) use Preparation, 6 students (17%) use Resignation, and 4 students (11%) use Peer Seeking. Positive Thinking is the most frequently used strategy by the students to help them overcome their anxiety in speaking English
