Abstract
Vocabulary mastery was considered a fundamental aspect of English language proficiency. However, Indonesian EFL students, including those at Senior High School 11 Muaro Jambi, often faced challenges in expanding their vocabulary due to limited exposure to English and less effective teaching strategies. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between students' habits in watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery. The research employed a quantitative correlational design. The data were collected through questionnaires and vocabulary tests administered to 81 eleventh-grade students using total sampling technique. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results revealed a moderate positive correlation between students' habit in watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery (r = 0.578, p = 0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected, indicating that students who frequently watched English movies tended to have better vocabulary mastery. These findings suggested that entertainment media could serve as an effective supplementary tool in EFL learning, encouraging both students and educators to utilize comprehensible input to enhance vocabulary acquisition. In conclusion, there was a significant correlation between students’ habit in watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery.
