Abstract

Listening is one of the important skills that students must learn in learning a language, such as learning English. However, in learning listening there are some problems that occur in the listening process itself, and students often find some problems to understand the words. Therefore, this study aims to find out if there is a significant difference in students' listening skills after being taught through songs. The sample of this study was 12th grade students of IPA 1 and IPA 2 SMA Negeri 8 Jambi City in the 2023/2024 school year. This research is quantitative in nature using a pretest and posttest experimental design. Pretest and posttest were given to collect data. Data were analyzed using Paired Sample T-Test in SPSS version 21. The mean value of the posttest (76.64) was higher than the pretest (69.58). In addition, the data analysis also showed the sig. 2-tailed (ρ) α 0.436 < 0.05. This means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, the song technique shows a moderate effect in improving students' listening.
